Impregnation
For timber to last as long as possible, it needs to be treated with a wood preservative. Vacuum-pressure treatment is the most effective defence against the fungi that cause wood rot.

Timber drying is a standard process at wood-processing plants: it reduces the moisture content of the wood so that further processing can proceed properly.
